After years since its release, I finally managed to read The Education of Butterflies by Donato Carrisi.
If you’re trying to figure out whether this is a book you might enjoy… buckle up, because it’s a bit of a devastating read.
Not that the books I usually bring cover light topics, but… compared to the other two, I’d say this one is just a bit rawer.
Not that it lacks charm, on the contrary; it’s a top-notch novel.

The author of this book is Donato Carrisi, considered one of the most widely read and internationally successful Italian thriller writers.
Winner of the Bancarella Prize in 2009 and the David di Donatello Award in 2018.
A versatile author, Carrisi is also a screenwriter, playwright, and Italian director.
In this book, we step into the shoes of Serena, a successful broker nicknamed “the blonde shark.”
Having become a mother against her will, she will have to face a very twisted fate.
A chalet in Vion catches fire, and everything — from that point on — will change.
The genre is psychological thriller, and it runs about 430 pages.
Personal opinion:
So, I’ll start by telling you right away: you’ll devour this book.
Don’t be fooled by the page count, because it will probably keep you hooked.
Partly, this is due to its structure, narrative technique, and style, which make the reading smooth and enjoyable.
Even though the story isn’t light by itself, reading it gives you a certain distance without lessening the emotional impact.
It was only around the middle of the book that it started feeling a little heavier, but just slightly.
The more I read, the more attached I became to Serena… especially after all the adventures she went through.
This book has a deep story, full of content and symbolism — perhaps a little too dense at times, but beautiful for that very reason.
It immediately sets a dark atmosphere that it maintains until the very end, along with several unexpected twists.
After all, it has a certain intriguing beauty (?).
Whether it’s the themes it explores, the storytelling that drew me emotionally into Serena’s life… or perhaps the darkness it hides — the fact is, this book’s charm lies in its rawness and ambiguity.
Almost like life itself (?).
In short, a book full of meaning that will probably make you reflect.
P.S. It was really hard to put together a decent review for this book… it really has too much to offer o.o
