Hey there, long time no see! After months since my last post and just a few weeks since Level-5 Vision 2026… here I am again with a general recap of the news of this Layton chapter.
News:
First of all, I should mention that the release window is unfortunately estimated for late 2026.
According to Hino-san during the Level-5 Vision 2026 livestream: “We’ve almost completed development of the core gameplay, and we’re now focusing on graphics and overall presentation.
Voice recording for the Japanese version has been completed, and we’re currently working on localization for the international versions.”
What can I say? That’s honestly a huge relief, and the trailer they showed this time feels consistent with what was said.
It’s a much fuller trailer, quite different from the ones we’ve seen (and re-seen in various forms) over the past three years.
As for the content: we got introduced to new characters, the voice cast was revealed (along with a dedicated video about their experience working on a project like this), we learned more about the story, and we even saw new gameplay scenes.
Not to mention the new puzzles, which will apparently be more numerous than in previous entries — as has become tradition by now.
These puzzles were created by QuizKnock, a Japanese group known for producing riddle and quiz books for various media.

They also run a YouTube channel focused on that kind of content, if you’re curious.
The last two pieces of news, which really stood out to me, were these: the theme song will be composed by Joe Hisaishi and written and performed by Lilas Ikuta, and the game will be released on platforms beyond Switch and Switch 2... for the first time ever, Layton will also be playable on PlayStation 5 and Steam!
Quick intro for anyone unfamiliar: Lilas Ikuta is known as the singer of YOASOBI, and Joe Hisaishi is famous for composing many of the soundtracks for Studio Ghibli films… so yeah, that’s why this is such big news.
The theme song will be released before the game launches and is still in production.
And that’s about it for the news.
Reaction/opinion:
Watching the trailer live and seeing all these updates, I honestly cried tears of joy and fangirled harder than I ever have in my life.
It really hit me emotionally seeing the dedication of the voice actors and hearing about their experiences bringing these characters to life.
I didn’t think I was this attached, but clearly I was wrong.
Also… HOW are we getting Lilas Ikuta AND Joe Hisaishi for the theme song?!
That’s such an incredible duo — I fully expect them to absolutely shine and probably make me cry all over again.
It really feels like the development team has finally found the right direction again, after taking the time they needed to create the worthy continuation so many of us have been hoping for.
And honestly, bringing Layton back in these years is no small feat, especially considering Level-5’s less-than-ideal situation… but I won’t go too deep into that since I don’t know all the details.
Anyway, it looks like they're making the final arrangements to present the series at its best and please us.
At least, that’s the hope.

Final thoughts and summary
All in all, expectations are still high — but this time, more than ever, this might really be the right year.
To sum things up: the trailer’s visual polish isn’t quite there yet, but they’re refining it and still working on localization.
The casting looks solid, and the new platforms are a huge plus.
I think the desire not to give a specific date is simply to give them the necessary time and not rush things and ruin part of the game.
Even if it gets delayed, it likely wouldn’t be by much — maybe just a few months into early 2027.
We’ve waited this long already — might as well keep waiting, if it’s for a good reason.
So yeah… I think that’s everything!
What did you think of the new trailer and/or the voice actors’ video?
Let me know — and I wish you all a great wait until the next update.
